Success ahead of season opener for 3DR!

With the Super 1 series’ season opener only 3 weeks away, the team have spent the past 2 months preparing their drivers for the step up in competition that they are to experience. In addition to this, the team has been working closely with Sam Jackson’s driver development programme in order to prepare him for a move up to Junior Rotax in the summer.

The teams’ Senior drivers, Danny and Dominic Russell have fought hard competition at Whilton Mill, Shenington and PFI respectively, at both tests and race meetings. With massive experience, it has been no surprise that both drivers go into the series with great confidence of achieving results.

‘Since the start of the new year, I have seen no competitors with any more pace than our seniors have right now. I believe that this part of the team looks in great shape for the season, with 2 rounds of the British championship being held at our local circuits. Although Danny and Dominic haven’t competed in many races (due to the team working hard on the other drivers), I see no reason why both can’t aim for victory at the first round at Whilton on April 5th.’ Team Manager, Tom Smith.

Rotax 177 driver Milan Mach has 2 years’ experience at British championship level. Seeded as 12th favourite for the championship this year, he should be aiming to mix inside the top 6 at all races this season. Mach took 2nd place in his 2nd ever race for the 3DR outfit last weekend at Kimbolton against some of the toughest competition in the country, taking fastest lap and the Winter Championship to boot.

The junior pairing of Jackson and Whitaker is one that the team strongly feels can work over the next 2 years. With both drivers joining the team as relative novices, Jackson 7 months ago, and Whitaker over Christmas, races at PFI twice, Kimbolton, and Whilton Mill, alongside driver training with lead driver Danny Russell have brought the 15 year old protégés forwards in leaps and bounds. A 6th place for Jackson at PFI, and a 5th for Whitaker at Kimbolton over the closed season with grids of over 50 drivers at both venues shows the amount of potential in the pairing.

‘The aim for both Junior drivers in this years championship is to finish with a coveted seeded plate. To finish inside the top 15 in the championship for any driver in their first year of competition at this level is a massive achievement. If all goes to plan, both drivers have the pace to compete for top 15 slots now, and by midway through the year we expect both drivers to run inside the top 10.’ Team Manager, Tom Smith

Meanwhile, Minimax driver Sam Jackson has undergone rigorous training at Whilton Mill, combined with 3 race events, 2 at Kimbolton and 1 at PFI. A 5th place at Kimbolton in one event, followed by an unlucky DNF in the 2nd despite having the pace to run at the front show how much Sam has come on already this season. 14th place at PFI against a Super 1 strong grid of 48 drivers was probably the best result of his career so far, and the team will continue to work hard with Sam, with an eye on the Super 1 or Formula Kart Stars championships in 2010.
