After a shaky November with results not going the teams way at PF, Kimbolton and Shenington, 3DR arrived at Whilton Mill determined to get back to winning ways.

‘After spinning out of contention at PF due to aquaplaning, rain 2 minutes before the start of the final at Kimbolton, and being wrongly black flagged at Shenington, the past 3 weeks have been tough for the team. We now must regroup and work hard to gain a result here at Whilton for both Dominic and Will Chambers. Everyone will be working flat out all weekend to ensure that we return to our winning ways.’ Tom Smith, Team Manager.

Will was back with the team after a 4 week layoff. After struggling through the opening 2 test sessions Saturday morning, he quickly got his act together to end the day inside the top 10 on lap times. With 34 drivers on the grid, this was quite a step forward for the Basingstoke based driver.

The team worked tirelessly with Dominic in Senior Rotax. With 3 clear drivers fastest all day, the team managed to break the field in the last session, lapping some 3 tenths faster than the whole field. With both drivers looking good for a result on Sunday, a content feeling spread through the camp on Saturday evening.

Snow and rain overnight erased anything learnt the previous day, and the teams previous knowledge of changing conditions were tested to the maximum as the heats kicked off on Sunday morning. A tricky first race for Will was followed up by two performances not seen by him before. 6th and 9th from 27th and 8th on the grid respectively was to put him up onto the 4th row for the final, his best ever starting grid at Whilton Mill.

3 solid heats for Dominic, despite being taken out in the final qualifier, secured pole by some 5 points for the final race. He managed 1st, 7th, and 4th from 4th, 11th, and 28th places in his heats.

With more rain expected for the finals, the kart setup was crucial. Starting on pole, Dom secured the lead by the first corner. Gapping the trailing pack by some 2 seconds per lap at the start, he unduly went on to take victory by 7 seconds over the course of the shortened, 7 lap final.

All eyes then turned to junior driver, Chambers. Pressure was on after seeing his teammate take such a commanding victory. Any result inside the top 10 would spell a major improvement for the youngster, who has previously been struggling with his racing. A good start saw him consolidate 8th over the first 3 laps of the race. He hung on with the front pack for 3 laps, and built up a commanding lead over the minor placed drivers. Making a few mistakes over the remaining 4 laps, 10th place was a good result.

‘Overall a very good result here for the team. Will has never looked so competitive in a final as he has today. This has hopefully given him a glimpse of what it is possible to achieve, and he hopefully will try and seize the opportunity to move forward and progress. Dominic’s win shows the team off for all of the right reasons here. A lot was down to track knowledge, and the team did a perfect job perfecting the balance of the kart. We head to Shenington next with a full team, so everyone in the team will be looking towards the top step of the podium once again!’ Team Manager, Tom Smith The team head to Kartmania where they will be exhibiting their products next weekend at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. After that, they will be back in action at Shenington on the first weekend of December. Watch this space!!!
