Success at Season Opener!

The freshly branded 3DR Motorsport kicked off their’ 2008 campaign successfully last weekend at the Whilton Mill club championship season opener. With Whilton Mill being one of the teams’ local circuits, it was important to show the competition what we had got.

With both drivers’ now in the Senior Rotax class, Dominic for the first time, and Danny now in his 3rd season, a complete testing programme was implemented on the Saturday. Danny was on his normal top form, with the fastest times of the day in the class. By the end of Saturday, Dominic was around 3 tenths of a second per lap away from Danny, a solid start to his senior career.

A Sunny, dry, yet chilly Sunday greeted the paddock on Sunday morning. The conditions were as the day before, so Saturdays test programme was worthwhile!

Throughout the heats, solid performances from both drivers saw Dominic take 2nd and Danny 3rd on the grid for the race, with former club champion Karl Haxton on pole. A good clean race saw Danny make a move for the lead on lap 4, and drive away from the competition to win the race by over a second, a large margin in karting! Dominic had an extremely good race, with a clean start from grid two being converted into a slot on the last step of the podium by the end of the final!

‘Qualifying on Grid 2, and bringing the kart home in 2nd has capped off a dream start to the year for me. I have beaten all of the drivers that have also made the change from juniors to seniors, and a lot of very experienced drivers,’ commented Dominic.

‘Both of the drivers have performed extremely well this weekend, and the team has functioned smoothly. With 3 fastest laps in 4 heats, and fastest lap in the final by some margin, i believe that we couldn’t have got anymore out of the weekend. Dominic has shown a lot of pace in his Senior debut this weekend. The competition this weekend was very tough for a club race, and for the team to come out on top, I am elated! Keep it up lads!’, commented Team owner Don Russell.

So, with the first race of an extremely hectic schedule out of the way, the team now look forward to test events with Danny ahead of the opening round of the British championship at Clay Pigeon in early March.
